Maroon cloth covers show shelf wear to the spine edges and corners, with the corners rubbed and slightly bumped. The hinges and text block are sound and the pages are clean and tightly bound. Beautifully illustrated throughout, with quite a few full-page color photographic plates showing beautiful British and French bindings. There are also numerous black-and-white illustrations throughout the book. A beautiful bookbinding historical reference book. Quite scarce in first edition. $200.00

This copy is signed by Douglas C. McMurtrie, who provided the introduction. Shelf wear to binding and rubbing to spine and corners. The center of the text block is cracked, but no pages are loose. The original slipcase shows some wear to the edges.  $60.00

19. Lowndes, William Thomas. Bibliographer's Manual of English Literature, an Account of Rare, Currious. Complete set of four volumes. London: William Pickering, 1834. 1834 edition, complete in four volumes. All volumes are in the original binding, with brown half leather spine and corners and marbled paper boards, paste-downs and endpapers. The leather spine show wear to the edges, with small chips to the edges of a couple of volumes. There is rubbing and some fading and discoloration to spines. The board edges and corners show some wear. The pages are all tight and the text blocks are square and tightly bound. The pages are clean and white and remarkably free from foxing. A beautiful set of this important early English bibliographical work. $125.00
