illustrations, including many in color. London
& New York, Cassell, Petter & Galplin: 1880. Complete set of 4 volumes
in original green pictorial cloth bindings. Gold illustrations of various
animals on the front covers and spines, and gold-decorated borders. Heavy shelf
wear to spine edges and corners, with corners rubbed through and some fraying to
cloth at spine edges. Bindings are sound. There are numerous full-page color
plates in these volumes. Volume I is missing the final plate on page 366. Volume
II has a couple of loose color plates withing the book. Volume I has hinges
repaired with archival glue and some scuffing and stains on front cover. Volume
II is rubbed at the binding edges and corners. Volume III has binding and corner
wear, but tight binding and hinges. Volume IV has repaired hinges and binding is
slightly cocked. A beautiful natural history set, profusely illustrated
throughout. $250.00
