3. Bidwell, John. Echoes of the Past: An Account of the First Emigrant Train to California, Fremont in the Conquest of California, the Discovery of Gold and Early Reminiscences. Chico, California: Chico Advertiser, 1914. 91 pages. 1914 first edition. Remarkably well-reserved. Original light green printed wrappers with stapled binding. There is a slight chipping to the paper at the top of the spine and the smaller chip at the bottom of the spine. A couple of very small stain marks on the back cover. No chips or tears to the front and back covers of the wrappers or any of the pages. The pages have browned from age and from the type of paper used in printing the book. Some of the text pages and the front cover have a slight, barely discernible, crease to the upper right corner. A scarce and important first edition by this prominent California gold rush pioneer. $44.00

The corners are worn and rubbed through. The front hinge is cracked and slightly pulling away, but still holding. The binding is tight. The foldout map at the end of the book is still present in very good condition. $15.00
