The dust jacket has a small tear at the top of the spine, but is in otherwise very good condition. A beautiful and comprehensive book. $208.00

(History of the Mormons, together with an account of their faith and their present social and political conditions). Leipzig, Germany: Von Ambroius Abel, 1870. 444 pages. First edition. Brown three-quarter cloth o dark brown pebbled the boards. Title and bands are gilt-stamped on the backstrip. Minor fading to the backstrip and the board edges. Flake/Draper 1035. Title in English is "History of the Mormons, Together with an Account of Their Faith and Their Present Social and Political Conditions". A scarce commentary on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints by this Germany social scientist. $125.00  
 
5. Cannon, John Quayle. George Cannon, the immigrant, Isle of Man, 1794-St. Louis, U.S.A., 1844. His ancestry, his life, his native land, his posterity, [The Desert news press], 1927. 211 pages. Red cloth covers show wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners. A scarce LDS family history of this LDS apostle, his progenitors and posterity. $150.00  
 
6. Charles Kelly-editor. Journals of John D. Lee, 1846-47 and 1859. Salt Lake City: Western Printing Company, 1938. 244 pages. This is the 1938 privately printed first edition. This is one of 250 copies and is also signed by Charles Kelly on the front blank endpage. Green hardback covers show some wear to the spine edges and corners. Slight discoloration to the covers. The bottom corners are slightly rubbed through. $450.00  
 
7. Deseret Alphabet. The Deseret First Book, by the Regents of the University. . 1868 first edition of the Deseret First Book in the Deseret Alphabet. Salmon-colored illustrated paper boards with purple cloth spine. Light wear to the edges and corners of the binding. The pages are clean and tightly bound. The former owner glued in the small 1970 information sheet, issued by Deseret Book, which gives a history of the Deseret Alphabet. This is glued onto the verso of the front blank endpage opposite of the title page.  $225.00  
 
8. Deseret Alphabet. The Deseret Second Book: By the Regents of the University. New York: Russell Brothers, 1868. 72 pages. Slight shelf wear to binding and rubbing to the edges of the spine and corners. Light soiling to the edges of the covers. Corners are slightly worn through. A very nice copy. The Deseret Alphabet was implemented by Brigham Young primarily to enable foreign-speaking Mormon immigrants to be able to communicate via a common language once they reached Salt Lake City. The language was developed primarily by George D. Watt, secretary to Brigham Young. It is said to have been devloped using elements of Arabic, shorthand, and the Pitman English Phonotypic Alphabet. The language never really caught on. $195.00  
 
9. Esshom, Frank. Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah. Salt Lake City: Utah Pioneers Book Publishing Company, 1913. 1913 first edition. Original full black leather binding. There is wear and rubbing to the spine edges and the corners, with the corners lightly rubbed through. Small chip to the leather near the top of the front joint. The binding is tight and the pages are clean and complete. Overall a nice, solid copy of this massive LDS historical book. With hundreds of photographs and biographical sketches of Utah pioneers. $575.00  
 
10. Evans, John Henry. Birth of Mormonism in Picture: Scenes and Incidents in Early Church History from Photographs by George E. Anderson. Salt Lake City: Deseret Sunday School Union, 1909. 64 pages. Oblong olive green covers. String-tied binding. There is some wear to the edges of covers, with a couple of small tears. Overall nicely preserved. An important photographic history. George E. Anderson captured many photographic views of significant LDS historical sites before they were permanently altered or disappeared altogether. The accompanying historical text makes this a very nice publication. $95.00  
 
11. Godfrey, Kenneth W. Charles Shumway, a Pioneer's Life. Provo, Utah: Privately Printed, 1974. 188 pages. Printed in 1974. Blue cloth covers in very good condition. A scarce pioneer history, which includes early reminiscences of pioneering in Arizona in the 19th-century. $125.00  
 
12. Hafner, Arabell Lee. 100 Years on the Muddy. Art City Publishing Co., 1967. Maroon cloth covers show light wear. A clean and tight copy. Scarce history of this Mormon settlement in Nevada. $135.00

14. Lambert, George C. GEMS OF REMINISCENCE. Seventeenth Book of the Faith Promoting Series Designed for the Instruction and Encouragement of Young Latter-Day Saints. Salt Lake City: George C. Lambert, 1915. 192 pages. Bound in brown printed wrappers. Wear to the edges of the spine and corners. Some old tape removal stains on the spine. The title page and a few initial pages have some dog-earring to the bottom edge. The binding is tight and pages are clean. The scarcest title in the Faith-Promoting series. This is the 17th book in the "Faith-Promoting Series" and is the scarcest and most difficult title to locate in the series. $235.00

17. Ravsten, Bennie Joseph. History of Clarkston: The Granary of Cache Valley, 1864-1964. N.p.: Privately printed, 1966. 486 pages. Maroon hardback covers. Some shelf wear to the spine edges and corners. A rare, privately-printed Cache Valley town history. I've long considered this book to be the most difficult Cache Valley town history to locate. $250.00  
 
18. Remy, Jules and Brenchley, Julius. A Journey to Great Salt Lake City. With a Sketch of the History, Religion, and Customs of the Mormons, and an Introduction on the Religious Movement in the United States. Complete set of two volumes. London: W. Jeffs, 1861. Complete set of two volumes. Rebound in brown buckram. There is wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners of the rebinding. Some light foxing to some of the pages. Some of the illustrated plates have abstaining at the edges, which looks to have been the condition they were in when the book was bound. This was a landmark publication of the time, chronicling the establishment and development of the Salt Lake Valley and with a detailed sociological and historical look at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. $250.00

Bound in full leather with gold title on front cover. Second edition.  Some shelf wear to the spine and the corners. Spine edges slightly faded and rubbed. A few small scuffs to the binding. A clean and tight copy. Very scarce in leather. $75.00  
 
20. Shipp, Ellis Reynolds. The Early Autobiography and Diary of Dr. Ellis R. Shipp. Desert News Press, 1962. 236 pages. Glossy softbound covers show quite a bit of wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners. Some creases to the edges of the covers. There is a small tear to the bottom of the front cover and joint. It's good history of this pioneering Utah woman doctor. A scarce publication. $75.00
